We learned so much on our visit to the apple orchard! Our guide explained how the workers prune the trees and why. She told us about the bees they raise to help pollinate the trees. We learned the best technique for picking apples, and we were able to take some home to share with our families! Afterward, we explored the corn maze and the playground. In preparation for our field trip to an apple orchard, we tasted six different varieties of apples. The kindergarten class joined us for this activity. It was fun to taste the different flavors of each apple and to choose our favorites! The second graders have been learning how to add and subtract numbers up to 1,000 with and without regrouping. Base ten blocks are very useful manipulatives for visualizing and understanding these concepts. It has been amazing to watch the students as they "get it," and to share their enthusiasm to practice!
